Unless you have been living under a rock for the past week, you’ll have heard about international charity WaterAid’s “The Big Dig Appeal”. The campaign seeks to bring fresh water to 118,000 people in Malawi, with a little help from the dozens of commercial radio stations who have pledged their support.
Many of these broadcasters are holding special events to raise awareness. For example, Kerrang Radio is scheduled to hold a special edition of “Thirst”, where their presenters have vowed not to drink a drop for an entire day. Stations taking a different approach include Jazz FM, who are re-releasing a re-recorded version of “Fever”, with all proceed going towards the charity.
What’s more: every £1 donated by the British public will be matched pound for pound by the UK government. Twice the money; twice the Malawians helped.
Maple Street Studios are very proud to say our parent company RadioWorks has been instrumental in helping to organise “The Big Dig Appeal” (please visit their
microsite to find out more). And as a welcome bonus, our studios have been ram-packed with celebrities ever since!

Sanjeev Bhaskar, of The Kumars at Number 42 fame dropped by to record the first of many Big Dig Appeal adverts.
His wonderful, buttery voice had such a soothing, calming effect that our studio engineer was almost lulled to sleep. But that isn’t to say he’s boring… he wryly spotted the potential to rewrite our graffiti to “Maple Street Stud”. Not what we expected of an OBE!

Rachel Stevens, of “need I say more” fame, dropped in too.
I think she did some voiceover work... erm…did we?

Our den (studio) was also blessed by (another) Dragon – cue Hilary Devey! Hilary came in to record an advert to promote her new book, Bold As Brass, which you can buy
here.
She’s had a fascinating lady, having come from virtually nothing to make her millions while dealing with a stroke and her son’s heroin addiction along the way, so her book’s well worth a read.
Overall Hilary was a delight to have in, though her retinue did pinch a whole box of our Krispy Kremes before getting in to her Rolls! Bit of a sticky (sorry) ending...
